Question: Got a How I Met Your Mother slap bet update?
Ausiello: Slap No. 7 will hit when you least expect it, according to exec producer Craig Thomas. “I don’t want to say exactly when the slaps are going to happen, but my personal opinion is if the very last moment of the entire series was a slap and you just cut to black, I’d be happy,” he tells us. “I don’t want to say where, when or how, but there’s more slap action coming.” Bonus HIMYM scoop: The show is rapidly aging Lily and Marshall’s son for a series of a flash-forward sequences. We’ll see Marvin at age 2 when he blurts out his first word, then again at age 6 when he’s facing a crisis at home, and then finally at age 13 when he suffers his first heartbreak.
Question: Will Barney’s Ducky return on HIMYM this season?
Ausiello: Sounds like it. “How I Met Your Mother is a bad horror movie,” says Thomas with a laugh. “Everything comes back at some point. You think it’s dead, and it just rears up at you one more time.”
Marvel Studios has released a deleted scene from Marvel’s The Avengers, arriving on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and DVD September 25. As you may recall, actor Harry Dean Stanton had a small cameo in this superhero adventure, where he interacts with Mark Ruffalo after one of Bruce Banner’s Hulk-out episodes. This extended sequence offers more from this fan-favorite moment in the film, with Harry Dean Stanton’s security guard helpig Bruce back to the fight at Stark Tower. Take a look below:
Avengers assemble…again! And be sure to bring Joss Whedon with you! Disney is doing just that, as Disney CEO and Chairman Bob Iger told analysts during a stockholders’ conference call today today that Whedon is returning to captain the sequel to the unbelievably successful Marvel hit The Avengers.
Largely credited for making Avengers the $1.5 billion movie it turned out to be, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator will write and direct a follow-up to the adventures following Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans) and the rest of the Avengers. Question: Will we see Barney and Robin’s engagement this season on How I Met Your Mother?
Yes — but whether it happens midway through the season or at the very end depends on the outcome of Season 9 negotiations. “Barney and Robin will get engaged this season,” confirms EP Craig Thomas. “I can guarantee that. We’ll show you how we get that far. When we will get to their actual wedding, I can’t tell you right now. But it’s going to be good.” Bonus scoop: Asked if Robin will be tasked with babysitting Marshall and Lily’s son, Marvin, Thomas all but confirmed that she would, saying, “I’m very interested to see what Robin Scherbatsky would be like for three hours with a baby.”
I’ve added scans from the September 2012 issue of SFX Magazine. A big thank you to my friend, Claudia for sending these to me. The magazine featured a closer look at The Avengers 2. Head over to the gallery for the latest additions.
While Fox staged a pretty epic phone call with American Idol judge Mariah Carey and ABC’s Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars announcement dominated headlines (Pretty easy when one of the All-Stars is Bristol Palin!), it’s no surprise that CBS had a bit of a quieter day at the 2012 Television Critics Association gathering.
Still, CBS President of Entertainment, Nina Tassler had much to talk about, including the future of How I Met Your Mother and the cancellation of CSI: Miami. Plus, LL Cool J and the rest of the NCIS: LA gang will welcome some pretty special guests this season!
Season Nine Lookin’ Fine: Earlier this month we reported that CBS and 20th Century Fox TV have started negotiations to order a ninth season of How I Met Your Mother. While it’s not official yet, Tassler reports, “They had an incredible year last year and we have a great relationship with Craig [Thomas] and Carter [Bays]. They have a strategic wrapup to the show. They know we want the show to come back next year. We’re not there yet in terms of [renewing HIMYM]. We’re in early conversations and we’re pretty optimistic.” (Source)

Michael Ausiello from TVline.com weighs in on the possibility of a ninth season of How I Met Your Mother. Will it happen? We sure hope so! Check out what the man behind “Ask Ausiello” had to say:
Question: Any update on the talks to bring How I Met Your Mother back for a ninth season?
Ausiello: They’re about to begin. But multiple sources stressed to me that the path to an official renewal will be long and (possibly) bumpy. According to one insider, CBS and producer 20th Century Fox Television have had preliminary discussions to set a framework for upcoming negotiations. Translation: They have talked about setting a time to talk. But before both sides can hatch a new licensing fee agreement, 20th has to close new deals with the cast and producers. So it’s probably best to table this until around January.
CBS wants to give the team behind How I Met Your Mother some advance notice about an end date so the show can actually live up to its title. So although Season 8 hasn’t even started filming yet, the network is already talking with producer 20th Century Fox TV about Season 9.
Variety reports the network and studio have had some preliminary discussions about giving the show another season. Talks have started earlier than usual so the show’s creative team can have extra time to either work toward an ending or tease out another year — and also because none of the show’s five stars nor creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays is under contract beyond the 2012-13 season.
How I Met Your Mother had a ratings resurgence last season, averaging 9.7 million viewers and a 4.1 rating in adults 18-49, up from 8.8 million and 3.5 in 2010-11. Its audience also has the youngest median age of any CBS show, and with Two and a Half Men moving to Thursdays in the fall, it’s now by far the longest-running member of the network’s Monday comedy block.
As is the case with any long-running show, though, the price tag is going up. Each member of the cast — Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan and Neil Patrick Harris — has enjoyed success outside the show as well, and it stands to reason they’d want sizable raises to return for a ninth year. Bays and Thomas also have a new show, The Goodwin Games, set for midseason at FOX.
What do you think? Should How I Met Your Mother wrap things up this season, or does the show have another year in it after that? (Source)
While some of the other networks are stretching out the premieres of their 2012-13 shows, almost all of CBS’ new and returning shows will debut during the week of September 24th. The one exception is Survivor. The 25th cycle of that reality show will premiere September 19th.
Fans can look forward to the season 8 premiere of How I Met Your Mother on Monday, September 24th (8:00-8:30 p.m.).
