While precious little is known about Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D., this much is certain: If ABC orders the Joss Whedon-directed/co-written pilot to series, it will bring something new to the small screen.

“I’m excited about the show because it’s a very hopeful show,” Whedon told TVLine Sunday at the 2013 Streamy Awards, where he was nominated for best guest appearance (in Husbands). “It’s not about murder, and it’s not about crime, and it’s not people looking into their own belly buttons. It’s about people who are trying to help each other, and that’s one of the things I loved about comic books. They had costumes and the villains were cool [but] they stood for something, and I like doing a show that does that.”

In addition to being very hopeful (and “very Joss,” as ABC boss Paul Lee has said), Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. — not surprisingly — will very strongly evoke its source material. “We’re trying very hard to be true to [Marvel's] ethos and also to the structure of their universe,” Whedon shared. “So it is definitely a Marvel show.”

That said, Whedon says to expect “not a ton” of familiar faces from the Marvel-verse, though “there’s a little bit of talk of that” for any possible future the project has in primetime. “Right now, I want to involve people in the characters that we’ve created for the show,” Whedon said, “and then we’ll worry about [the other stuff].”

Currently, the cast for S.H.I.E.L.D. — which wrapped filming on the pilot last week and is being fast-tracked by ABC — includes ER alum Ming-Na (as former soldier Melinda May), Clark Gregg (reprising his big-screen Avengers role as Agent Phil Coulson), Nashville’s Chloe Bennet (playing superhero culture-obsessed Skye), British beauty Elizabeth Henstridge (science expert Gemma Simmons), Scotsman Iain De Caestecker (tech whiz Leo Fitz) and Brett Dalton (rising star Agent Grant).

Last month, there was talk that Cobie Smulders might sneak away from How I Met Your Mother to at least cameo as Maria Hill, the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent she played in Whedon’s The Avengers. In actuality, Whedon cautions that Smulders’ schedule “will permit very little” involvement, “but if we can get a hold of her anytime, we will.”

After all, the auteur said, weaving in previous inhabitants of his own Whedonverse is nice, but never imperative.

“You look for the best person for the role, and if that person is someone you already know, then great. That’s some work done for you,” he told us. “But as much as I would love to — and once did — make a movie just with my friends, you always want to increase the family.”

TVLine.com’s Michael Ausiello of Ask Ausiello has posted a new How I Met Your Mother spoiler. For those wanting to remain spoiler free, do not read below.

Question: Any How I Met Your Mother scoop about Barney and Robin?
Ausiello: First comes love, then comes marriage, but in-between, there’s… cohabitation! In “The Fortress of Barnitude,” Barney — presumably in preparation for moving in with his fiancée — holds an open house in hopes of unloading his bachelor pad. (Cue flashbacks to one-night stands in 3, 2… ) Somehow, along the way, at least one potential buyer is given the impression that Ted and Marshall are a couple — and Lily, an intolerant homophobe. P.S. Hey, where is Future Robin’s wedding ring…?

Last week’s pilot of NBC’s “Jekyll and Hyde” drama Do No Harm premiered to disastrously low ratings. “Do No Harm’s” performance got the folks at www.scottfeinberg.com thinking: What are some of the best pilots in recent memory? Here’s a list of the 10 best pilots of the past decade:

4. How I Met Your Mother (2005)
“Pilot”
CBS

Introducing a premise that is truly legendary, How I Met Your Mother opens in the year 2030, with a father (voice by Bob Saget) beginning to tell his children about how he, as the title may suggest, met their mother.

Flash to 2005: Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) meets the woman of his dreams, Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders), and his two best friends, Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel) and Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan) get engaged.

Ted falls head-over-heels for Robin, but announces to his children that this is the sub-plot of how he met their “Aunt Robin,” giving the show a breath of fresh air and a unique premise.

This is also the moment the world is introduced to the womanizing Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) and his vast collection of tailored suits and enormous little black book.

Toby Jones is set to return for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. SuperheroHype (via HeyUGuys) reports that Jones will reprise his role as Arnim Zola, one of the villains of the sequel. He will join Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan from the first film.

In the comics, “Zola was a genetic engineer who created clones and various monstrosities for Hitler. He also captured his own mental self, inserting it into a robot, and survived the war.” In the first Captain America, fans were briefly given a glimpse of the blueprints for the robot, so we may actually see Zola as a robot in the sequel.

Anthony and Joe Russo will direct franchise newcomers Anthony Mackie in the role of the Falcon and Frank Grillo as Crossbones. Also along for the ride are characters from Marvel’s The Avengers, including Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, and Cobie Smulders. The film arrives in 2D and 3D theaters on April 4, 2014. TVLine.com’s Michael Ausiello of Ask Ausiello has posted a new How I Met Your Mother spoiler. For those wanting to remain spoiler free, do not read below.

Question: So, with Barney and Robin’s wedding set to be in May 2013, does this mean the Mother will be appear throughout How I Met Your Mother‘s ninth season?
Ausiello: Don’t have an answer to that question, but I can tell you that this season’s 17th episode, titled “Weekend at Barney’s,” will find the Legen-dary One headlining a circa-1988 fantasy sequence. (No word if said fantasy sequence features a cameo by Andrew McCarthy.)
