The final moments of Monday’s How I Met Your Mother could have been interpreted many ways. As Victoria boarded a bus out of Ted’s life, she left him with parting words, “There is a reason it didn’t work out between you and me. It’s Robin. She’s so much bigger in your world than you realize.”
Your post-episode confusion is exactly what creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas intended.
“We chose our words carefully as we always do, and it’s all right there,” Bays tells EW exclusively. “Obviously we’re not telling the whole story right away because there’s still a lot of story left, but I think Robin had always been an integral part in Ted’s life. If you look at all the moments that he’s kind of come close with girls, Robin has always kind of been there at the moment where it fell apart. If you look at him and Zoe, if you look at him and Stella, it’s definitely a monkey on his back that he needs to figure out how to move past, or, not move past.”

How I Met Your Mother has found its Slutty Pumpkin! CBS confirms to EW that Katie Holmes will step into the show’s iconic (and, until now, mysterious) role for a Halloween-themed episode this season. And after mulling over this choice for nearly an hour…my head hurts.
Could Holmes be The Mother? The Slutty Pumpkin has always been an important part of Mother mythology, and, on a deeper level, an important symbol of Ted’s belief in love. (Quick recap: In 2001, Ted met the Slutty Pumpkin at a Halloween party in which he was a hanging chad, and she was a pumpkin with strategically placed holes. But Lily accidentally tossed her phone number, so, for years, Ted went to the same party, in the same costume, hoping to meet her. He never has.) In my brain, that’s the perfect person to have come back and play the most important person of Ted’s life. Additionally, my guess would be that the show would want a big name to helm the title role.
Years ago, I not-so-secretly wanted The Mother to be Rachel Bilson. And when that went out the window, I at least hoped it would be someone equally as likable. I’m not saying I don’t like Holmes, but I’m very protective over the shows I love. I just want it to be the right fit, and I’m not entirely sure she would be the one I’d want to see in the part. I mean, her strength has been in dramatic roles; maybe she’s been hiding some amazing comedy chops all these years?
This is all speculation, of course. She could be a one-episode wonder, but I just don’t see that happening with the Slutty Pumpkin. We’ve been told many times that there is a grand plan for this show, and I’m almost entirely certain they wouldn’t build up the Slutty Pumpkin just to bring her in for a single episode. Time will tell…
Meanwhile, you tell me, PopWatchers: What do you think of this casting choice? What do you think the Slutty Pumpkin’s appearance means for Victoria and Ted’s chances? (Yes, in my head, they’re already dating again because I love them together so much that I can’t entertain the idea that they won’t give it another chance starting in episode 2. We’ll see.) And are you excited to see the episode? (Source)
Ask Ausiello has posted a small (but juicy) How I Met Your Mother spoiler! Robin Sparkles, anyone? If you do not want to be spoiled, I recommend not reading the text below.
Question: Any update on the return of Robin Sparkles on How I Met Your Mother?
Ausiello: No news on the Sparkles front, but exec producer Carter Bays tells TVLine that this season’s 10th episode features “a very funny song that [co-creator] Craig Thomas wrote. The less I say about it the better.”

They may not have gotten any Emmy love, but here are the performers and series (for both comedy and drama) that YOU the Entertainment Weekly voters say deserve honors:
Best Comedy
How I Met Your Mother, 34.41% of the vote
Season 6 of CBS’ consistent comedy brought a pregnancy, daddy issues, and guest star Kyle MacLachlan. (And fine, Katy Perry, too). The gang’s still got it.Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy
Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother, 44.86% of the vote
”Um. Why is Jon Cryer in NPH’s spot?” says commenter MKS. ”How can the Emmys ignore Barney’s tear-jerking yet touchingly funny journey with his reunion with his father?”
When CBS’ How I Met Your Mother returns with back-to-back episodes on Monday, Sept. 19, Cobie Smulders’ character, media professional Robin, will be kissing guys.
“Always. Multiple,” Smulders assures Zap2it during a break in filming on the show’s Los Angeles sets.
One guy of the “multiple” looks to be former House star and Obama White House staffer Kal Penn, who has signed on to a recurring role in “How I Met Your Mother” as Kevin, a potential love interest for Robin. His first episode is scheduled to air Oct. 3.
“I know that he’s going to be on the show,” says Smulders. “I’m going to be meeting him through therapy that Robin’s going to be taking. That’s all we know. But he’s going to be with us for a while.”
Asked why Robin is going into therapy, Smulders says, “Yeah, Robin is just a bundle of unresolved emotions. Hopefully she’ll be able to smooth things over in her emotional life. Right now, she’s in a hard place, because she’s pining over Barney. Barney is in love — love? Who knows? — is pining over this co-worker of hers. She’s having a hard time dealing with that, because it’s very much in her face.”
Ask Ausiello has posted some How I Met Your Mother spoilers regarding what fans can expect in the upcoming season of How I Met Your Mother. Take a look below:
Question: Can we get any spoilers on How I Met Your Mother‘s Barney and Robin? We love this couple!
Ausiello: In the season opener, Lily urges Robin to crap or get off the pot with regard to Barney. “She encourages her to be honest about her feelings,” previews Alyson Hannigan. “‘Cause Robin’s playing it off like, ‘No, no, no.’ So Lily’s like, ‘Alright, then, prove it. Step up to the plate and tell Barney that it’s not going to happen.’ Something magical then happens, but you’ll have to stay tuned for that.”Question: Any intel on which old girlfriend Ted runs into in the Sept. 26 episode of How I Met Your Mother?
Ausiello: Nope, but I can tell you that it leads to a scene Josh Radnor says will “reward longtime fans” of the show. Per the actor, Ted challenges the gang to guess the identity of his ex. “And I don’t think he’s prepared for four-and-a-half pages of guesses from them of who this girl could be,” says Radnor. “They basically list every single girl that Ted has had any sort of encounter with over six years. It’s a pretty comprehensive list.”
When How I Met Your Mother returns on Sept. 19, unrequited love will be in the air. Remember Season 4 of the CBS sitcom, when Barney was crushing hard on Robin? Well, flip it around and you’ve got the new season. After staring longingly at Barney as he and old flame Nora reconnected in last season’s finale, Robin will come to realize she’s still got feelings for the one that got away.
“There’s some pining for Barney happening at the moment,” says Cobie Smulders. “It’s all about her being really depressed and not quite knowing how to tell him how she feels.” Or if she should even tell him at all. “It’s a hard thing of knowing how she feels, but not knowing if it’s quite right to pursue,” she continues. “He seems like he’s really happy with Nora. He’s finally in a relationship that he’s seemingly very committed to seeing through.”
Robin may be respectful of the fact that her ex is getting serious about another girl, but that doesn’t mean she has to be happy about it. “She doesn’t like it,” says Smulders. “She doesn’t like it one bit.” So what’s a girl to do? Step back and admit defeat? Throw herself at the guy? “She’s figuring that out,” replies Smulders. “She’s been quite aggressive at the moment with letting Barney know without actually saying it. I think, eventually, she’ll do what she thinks is right.”
She might get her window of opportunity to spill the beans if Neil Patrick Harris’ theory about his character’s new romance is correct. (Click here to read more…)
